WHAT IS AN EMG Test?

Electromyography (EMG) test help diagnose injuries and conditions that affect your muscles and the nerves that control them, such as carpal tunnel syndrome and muscular dystrophy. EMG test is done alongside a nerve conduction study and usually takes 60 to 90 minutes, depeding upon how many muscles need to be tested.

EMG TEST GUIDELINES

Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing and avoid putting cream, lotion or perfume on your skin. These can affect the test’s accuracy. Tell the healthcare provider if you’re taking a blood thinner medication and or if you have a pacemaker or any other electrical medical device. Don’t smoke or drink caffeinated beverages two hours before the test.
